first impressions
visual
- Appears to be around her mid-twenties.
- Rose red hair which falls just below the small of her back.
- "Phosphorus green" eyes. Also, red framed glasses!
- 175cm (5'9") ; with heels, 186cm (6'1")
- Lithe and athletic; while maintaining an androgynous appearance about her, she is notably AMAB.
- Grell still prefers to wear slacks over skirts, but not without feminine flair. You're unlikely to catch the reaper without makeup, heels, and at least one red accessory.
aural
- Japanese VA for tone and inflection.
- Very British, but also speaks as though she might be performing a monologue for the stage at any given moment.
demeanor
- Over-the-top in nearly every sense.
- Loud, flamboyant, flirtatious.
- Vulgar, sadistic, insane(?).
- Mood is capable of declining from joy to irritation in an instant.
- Regardless of disposition, will often have an eerie shark-toothed smile etched upon her face.
notes
- A supernatural presence.
- Neither dead or alive, but has a soul.
- Much older than she looks.
- Probably isn't lying, but might be embellishing.
- Very nearly off her rocker, but there's a sense of misery at the center of it all.
abilities
- Superior strength, endurance, and agility. Most notable is the ability to leap tremendous heights for combat and travel.
- Limited immortality. It is said that a reaper is invincible, unless slain by their own scythe.
- The ability to wield a deathscythe.
- The deathscythe allows the reaper to harvest souls. One nick of its blade will bring forth memories, flowing from the wound in the form of a reel; the Cinematic Record. By reliving the life of the afflicted individual, the reaper is then to collect information and place judgment on the soul; if the individual is deemed worthy of life, they live on - but should they be considered otherwise, the memories are severed away from the soul, thus ending their time on earth.
- Though the deathscythe is not intended for battle, it has the ability to cut through (most) anything (except another deathscythe). With proper paperwork, it is capable of being modified into many objects, as well. Through illegal modification, Grell came to possess a deathscythe in the form of a gleaming red chainsaw, which she more than happily uses as a weapon.
- Detecting souls is a potential skill that should be noted, as well. Her kind are capable of distinguishing between human and demon by presence alone. Additionally, other reapers have been observed "seeing" souls, despite their lack of glasses, and identifying one another without the need to see at all.
- Altering aspects of appearance for the sake of disguise; the appearance of her teeth and the color and length of her hair were changed to allow her to pass as Madam Red's butler, for example.
soul
Carnivora; based on the "Hyrcanian Beast" invoked in Shakespeare's works; symbolizing "extreme savagery, inhumanity, and incredible speed"... spoiler: it's just a tiger. Still, a strawberry color variation would be pretty cute, right?

Name: Grell Sutcliff
Canon: Kuroshitsuji / Black Butler
Age: Unknown; appears to be around her mid-twenties.
Gender: Transfemme
Species: Grim Reaper / death god
Appearance: Rose red hair which falls just below the small of her back, with "phosphorus green" eyes and very fair skin. One couldn't forget the red-framed glasses, either; they are a necessity for reapers to see, in her world. Standing at 175cm (and 186cm in heels), her build is quite athletic with lean muscle. While maintaining an androgynous appearance about her, she is notably AMAB and open to talking about it. Grell still prefers to wear slacks over skirts, but not without feminine flair. You're unlikely to catch the reaper without makeup, heels, and at least one red accessory.
Canon point: ch 149
History: Here
Personality answers:
Yes, Grell puts a great amount of thought and care into her personal presentation. The reaper puts a great deal of pressure upon herself to appear feminine and beautiful. Aside from keeping her hair quite long and wearing heels at all times, despite how troublesome that could be in battle, she also makes a point of wanting to keep her makeup flawless, especially in the presence of those she's attracted to.
First and foremost, Grell would state that her battle prowess is her most shining quality. Few can top her agility and strength, and it has landed her in the special operations branch. Alternatively, she'd say that she has an attractive face and great ass. (She isn't wrong!)
Indeed, Grell's skill with fighting is something to be reckoned with. It has been stated that she is the third most powerful character in the series (behind Undertaker and Sebastian Michaelis, respectively). This grim reaper thrives on the adrenaline of battle, which she would simply call passion, and she's got the martial skill and expertise to go toe-to-toe with the best of them. 'Battle prowess', however, might be going a little too far. When up against someone as quick on their feet, both in terms of cleverness and dexterity, she is certainly capable of being outsmarted. For example, Sebastian was able to render her chainsaw useless by using his wool coat to tie up its motor, and while she was shocked by this revelation, took the opportunity to beat her to a pulp!
In my opinion, it is actually resiliency which is Grell's best trait. It must have been devastating to know that her attempts to free herself from the bindings of life was met with the punishment of immortality. Perhaps that motivated her to be the strongest - physically and mentally - so that she could counter the challenges which beat her down before. Of course, that's merely speculation, and whatever happened along the way has left her crazed and sadomasochistic. Certainly not ideal, but it's given her a new lease on life and allowed her to get up once and again, with the passion to continue moving forward. That's certainly worth something.
Grell operates by her own moral compass, and she is notorious for causing trouble. If a rule exists, it's likely that she has broken it - and, similarly, it's quite possible that at least a few of those rules exist because of her. It seems that she despises all things plain and boring, and will do everything she can to keep herself amused within her boundaries.
Grell's obsessive tendencies prove to be especially bothersome, particularly where violence is involved. Her fixation with all things red - especially when adorned by bloodshed - is most notable. Should she find herself in love, it seems that she would like to express it by ripping the objects of her affection through and through. It would also appear that she doesn't mind (lol understatement) receiving some abuse herself, not only apparent by the targets of her affections and their treatment of her, but additionally, her active pursuit of well-matched 'prey'; however, such is done with much insistence that the other would take care not to 'harm a lady's face'.
Furthermore, though Grell has been seen as problematic, she had been relatively dedicated to her work. As Angelina committed murder after murder, taking the lives of those who took the gift of childbirth for granted, she watched with speculation from afar, until she had at last resolved to assist the other in her killings thereafter. As she declared it so to Madam Red (Angelina Dalles), she believed that she had every right to murder those women, as she also believed that they deserved it. Just as Madam Red was unable to birth children due to a tragic accident that took her unborn child, she too was unable due to her male anatomy, despite how she wished for it. It instilled within her a deep connection - so much so, that she put everything she held dear at risk.
Since the incident, she had been suspended from the job, and once reintroduced to the field, was given menial cases, or ones requiring a partner. Regardless, Grell seems to have a renewed sense of duty and code of ethic. Mostly. She had always been shown to hold her position as a death god highly, but she has clearly learned from her last mistake, driven to complete tasks, and echoing the rules and values set before her.
In fact, the reinforcement of her beliefs may solidify that fact that Grell is simply one to act based on passion alone, neglecting to think of the consequences before springing into action. When one considers how she avoided Ronald's plea to leave the Bizarre Dolls be, in favor of the investigation they'd been handed, she had to learn how useless it was for herself before suggesting the same idea. Likewise, in the process of attacking Sebastian, she sliced into the hull of Campania from the inside, without considering that it would worsen the situation of the sinking vessel. Ronald repeatedly reels her in from 'slacking off on the job' or jumping into inappropriate actions, and yet the superior still offers valid advice as they go. It seems apparent that Grell does not act out with the intent of deviancy, but is simply very prone to being said deviant, in every sense of the word.

It has been made known that grim reapers come to be by ending their own mortal life, and are thus condemned to redeem themselves in servitude. This is an intriguing insight to Grell's identity; while her past has not been revealed, one might be led to infer that the decision to take her own life likely stems from her gender identity and how it was observed during her time. We often see that she is misgendered, but she does not take offense to being referenced to as a male. It's likely that she is quite used to it, as the other characters within their Victorian setting seem to be quite abject to this foreign idea of a transgender woman. Their reactions vary from confusion, embarrassment, and disgust.
It's that she may value herself as little as her peers do, or perhaps she doesn't see the worth in arguing, and opts to look past such ignorance; however, such disrespect stimulates her, and a lack of conflict would unsettle and displease her. Somewhere along the way, she became bloodthirsty, violent, vulgar, and very nearly mad. Maybe her permanently upturned brows are an indication that there's all this and more going on underneath the surface.
Inventory: Chainsaw deathscythe, personal scheduling binder, makeup bag, and additional red trenchcoat (not to be confused for the red coat she wears with her uniform, which she will be dressed in pre-arrival).

Samples: Here! I hope a toplevel with two comment threads of 4+ (on my end) is sufficient!
Player Goals: To be perfectly honest, I just think that Grell would be a blast to have in this setting. Being solidly in the morally grey zone, she will likely accept Patho-Gen for what it is, and be willing to work with them (especially for the right price). It will be interesting to see if she can come to realize that she has the ability to contribute to an active change.
Soul Choice: Carnivora; based on the "hyrcanian beast" invoked in shakespeare's works; symbolizing "extreme savagery, inhumanity, and incredible speed"... spoiler: it's just a tiger. Still, a strawberry color variation would be pretty cute, right?
